Staying Ahead of the Curve

We have just concluded our 58th Annual Convention and Trade Show in beautiful Orlando, Florida. I enjoyed seeing all of the folks that I only get to see once or twice a year. We had a good turnout and the festivities were enjoyed by all.

It has been a busy and productive year for NALMCO! Here is a re-cap of the events and opportunities that have taken place over the past year:

• The new Certified Sustainable Lighting Consultant (CSLC) designation was unveiled at the 2010 Convention at Trade Show and is available at testing sites throughout the U.S.
• The Certified Lighting Management Consultant® (CLMC^®) exam moved from a paper-and-pencil test to a computer based test now available throughout the U.S.
• Lapel pins and stamps are available to CLMC^® and CSLC certified members.
• Online testing for the Certified Apprentice Lighting Technician (CALT) and the Certified Senior Lighting Technician (CSLT) is now available.
• We unveiled the Choose NALMCO campaign in July and provided members with new tools to promote working with NALMCO members in the lighting industry.
• With the support of NALMCO members staffing the booth, the association exhibited at LIGHTFAIR International, the West Coast Energy Management Congress, the World Energy Engineering Congress and the NAESCO 2011 Annual Conference and will continue to do so by partnering with other Trade associations to promote the NALMCO brand.
  

Some things to keep in mind as you stay ahead of the curve in the lighting industry:

• If you are a Certified Lighting Management Consultant^® (CLMC^®) you may apply through the CLMC^®/CLEP reciprocity program for your CLEP. Contact NALMCO headquarters for details.
• There are numerous marketing materials available to members on the website under Members Only, Marketing Materials. If you’ve forgotten how to log in, contact headquarters.

The association has unveiled a Professional Membership category and a Strategic Partner and Education Partner membership option. Details will be available on the website soon, and in the February issue of LM&M. Continual investments are being made in the NALMCO certification programs (CALT, CSLT, CLMC^® and CSLC) in order to solidify their place as the best certification programs in the lighting industry.

The NALMCO Spring Seminar, hosted by Acuity Brands Renovation in Conyers, Ga., will take place April 19–20, 2012. The 59th Annual Convention and Trade Show will be held in Palm Springs, Calif., at the Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa October 14–17, 2012. Save the dates and plan to attend these annual events!
