Control: to exercise authoritative or dominating influence over, direction or command.

We recently went to see our son-in-law who had an emergency appendectomy. He is in the Army and currently stationed at Fort Irwin, Calif. You can enter the base with just a driver’s license or other ID if the security level is low. When the security level is higher you additionally need registration, insurance and the purpose of your visit. Well, I had just bought a new car and had not yet received my proof of insurance. Needless to say, the security level was high and we were not going to be
allowed in without all the required documents.

There are so many things in this life we cannot control. Things like the weather, fuel
prices, the way other people drive, traffic, and the speed at which your insurance
company snail mails your documents.

That isn’t the case with lighting. The installation of photo controls and the ever simple T101 have given way to modules that connect directly to your panel. Using a computer with definitive software you can control lighting, heating and air and not even be in the same building. We definitely have come a long way.

Oh, we did get on base that day. I called our daughter and asked that she come pick us up at the visitor center, which was as far as Sgt. Jackson was going to allow my car to go without documentation.

Control: the act or power of controlling; regulation; domination or command.
