Benefits of Certification

The speed of technological development in the lighting industry necessitates rapid response by our organization to provide our members with the means to obtain this knowledge. We seek to provide information and training to our industry practitioners expeditiously and in a concise, unbiased manner.

NALMCO offers three nationally recognized certifications which identify professionals who demonstrate a high degree of competence and knowledge. Education tells you that your people are trained to perform their best, while certification assures your customers that your people are thoroughly competent and professional!

CALT - Certified Apprentice Lighting Technician
CSLT - Certified Senior Lighting Technician

NALMCO offers home study certification programs which are indispensable for both entry-level and midlevel lighting management personnel. They are the Certified Apprentice Lighting Technician (CALT) and the Certified Senior Lighting Technician (CSLT) designations. Not only do they teach basic and advanced lighting and lighting management operations, they increase the professionalism of your business and serve as an important bridge toward obtaining the Certified Lighting Management Consultant (CLMC) status.

The certification programs consist of training textbooks printed in English, reader-friendly, self-administered exams, certificates of completion, certification wallet cards, and shirt badges.

Learning the Course: This is a home study course, but can be presented in a classroom fashion by the company. Some companies may find it desirable to teach the course, backing lecture with reading. Others may prefer to have the technicians read a chapter, then sit down with them in a group for review and discussion. Still other companies may want to allow the technician to complete the entire textbook, then sit down with him/her and review in preparation for the certification exam.

These valuable programs are available for a one time fee plus the cost of each textbook and exam purchased.

CLMC - Certified Lighting Management Consultant

The purpose of the Certified Lighting Management Consultant (CLMC) program is:

  • To raise the professional standards of the lighting management industry by giving special recognition to those individuals who, by passing suitable examination and fulfilling prescribed standards of performance and conduct, have demonstrated a high level of technical competence and knowledge, as well as ethical fitness for holding key positions in the industry.
  • To make available to members of the lighting management industry, on a voluntary basis, a procedure for recognition of personal and professional achievement.
  • To make the public more conscious and aware of qualified, ethical and professional individuals representing the lighting management industry.
  • To identify persons with acceptable management practices and technical expertise required of the lighting industry.
  • To encourage members of the industry to participate in a continuing program of professional development.

It is not the intent of the Certification board to determine who shall or shall not practice as a lighting management consultant. The board specifically disclaims any intention to interfere with or limit in any way the professional activities of anyone in the practice of lighting management consultant, only that such individual has not fulfilled the requirements for CLMC or has not applied for such recognition.
